The Shattering by Karen Healey

This book presents itself as a complicated murder mystery, but it falls into so many cliches of a "who-dunnit" novel. The characters are unique in their own ways, but the plot just didn't hold my attention. Healey attempts to bridge the murder mystery theme with themes of trust, sexuality, and race, but those themes, for me, got lost in translation. While race is a huge part of the novel, I never truly feel the weight of why the novel is mentioning it in the first place, as it feels purposeless. This book is not something I would read again.
