The Rifle by Gary Paulsen

The book the rifle is written by gary paulsen. The rifle is about the story of a rifle made by Cornish mcManus who enjoyed making the rifle when he started, he enjoyed it so much that he would work all day at his gunsmith job fixing and selling guns to hunters and other people but in the night he would work on the rifle in the candle light. cornish worked on his most priced item until it was finished then he went out into the field and got a log and set the rifle up to see how accurate it was, he shot it three times and only saw one hole so he thought there was no way he missed twice so he went and looked at the hole in the log and noticed that the hole was bigger than the hole of just one rifle ball so he pulled out is pocket knife and started to pull out the rifle ball when he noticed there was another on behind it and another on behind that one, it amazed him how accurate it was so he took the log and the rifle back to his shop where he would make a gun rack out of the log for the magnificent rifle to sit. Cornish kept the rifle for a few months having people offer him things and money for it but he did not want to sell it so he declined there offers, it was not tell a hunter that had a old beat up rifle came in and asked him to fix the old rifle. The hunters name was john byam a hunter who came into town to sell his hides, john saw the rifle sitting on the rack and asked to look at it and cornish said ok, after that john asks if he can shoot the rifle and once again cornish says ok. John and cornish take the rifle out in the field john points at a dead limb three hundred yards away or so and tells cornish that if the rifle is accurate he will be able to hit the tree limb, john loads the rifle and ames at the limb the rifle fires and then they saw the limb hit the ground. John asks cornish what he wants for it and then cornish says what do you have so john gives cornish all of the hides and pelts he had from the year and the old rifle that he brought with him. John leaves the town to head back to his cabin in the woods, he gets into some trouble with the british army and joins up with the revolution where he becomes a well known soldier with his skills using the rifle to kill many men on the other side. John gets sick and dies so a nurse that was looking over him takes the rifle to give to one of her two sons, but little did she know that they were already dead killed a week prier when she hears the news she stores the rifle in the attic where it was not touched tell the present time when the house is getting remolded and is found by a gun collector who sells it when he comes to a time of need to a family man who hangs it above the fireplace where it sits tell something happens that I am not going to mention because you have to read the book to get the details and to find out the ending.
